Malinda Underwood

R. Malinda Underwood, 74, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.  She was born in Batesville, Arkansas, on November 28, 1948, to Floyd and Exie Peel. Her life’s work centered around her love for helping people.  She graduated as an RN and spent her career of 30 years working for Methodist Hospital, St. Bernard’s Medical Center, White River Medical Center and Unity Health -Newport.  She made a difference in the medical community.  She was a member of the Living Word Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William VanDerGriff, two brothers, and her fur-baby, Brutus.

Survivors include her brother, William Peel of Bartow, Florida; sisters, Mary Kelley and husband, Wade of Somerville, Tennessee; Sheila King and husband, George; Lavada McArthur and husband, Steve; all of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 at Emerson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 Wednesday morning, November 22, 2023 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Carl Blankenship officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers are Unity Health-Newport Nurses and staff.
