Makenna Nicole Bruner Haynes, 17, was tragically taken from this life in a roadside accident on Saturday, November 18, in Marion. She leaves behind lasting memories as someone with a zest for life.

Makenna was full of energy, and always wanted to be around friends. She was passionate about singing and dancing, and was nearly always listening to music. She had a love for fashion, and was always excited to shop for new clothes and shoes. Blue was her favorite color. Eating wasn’t just a necessity, but something she savored. Mexican food and chicken nuggets were her favorites.

Makenna couldn’t pass a stray animal without stopping to check on it, and she wanted to give them all homes. She especially loved her dogs, Vegas, Jack, and Gwendolyn, who she loved as if they were her children. She had a contagious energy around kids, who she loved spending time with, especially her nieces and nephews.

Makenna is survived by her husband, David Haynes; father, Ray Bruner; mother, Misti Dawn Thomas; grandmother, Paula Sue Bruner; grandfather, Thomas Garcia; siblings, Matthew, Devin, Jackson, Jacob, Annabelle, Feris, Pilot, and Christopher Slade; cousin, Pandora Estrada, who was as close as a sister; Amy Heritage, who was like a sister; and several aunts and uncles from the Kelley and Bruner families.

She was predeceased by her grandmother, Maydean Smith.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Christian Life Center in Brookland. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, at Christian Life Center, with burial to follow at Pine Log Cemetery. Bro. Scott Trayler will officiate. In memory of Makenna, the family asks that you feed a stray dog, eat your favorite food, listen to your favorite song, sing, and dance. Spend your time with your loved ones, hold them tight, and tell them you love them, for you never know when they will depart.
