Mack Yates Ramsey of Jonesboro, AR passed away on August 20, 2022, at the age of 62. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judith Leigh (Craft) Ramsey; his children Steven Ramsey and wife Amanda, along with their children Brooks and Callie, of Cumming, GA; David Ramsey and wife Brianne of Little Rock, AR; and Elizabeth Boggs and husband Blake of Murfreesboro, TN. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Margaret Helton, Ambrose Ramsey III, John Ramsey, Pat Sue McReynolds, and Charlie Ramsey, and his mother-in-law, Glenda Craft.
Mack was born on September 4, 1959 to the late Ambrose and Floyce Ramsey, in Baton Rouge, LA, where he was raised as a fan of the LSU Tigers. He was a graduate of Harding University and Arkansas State University. He taught Math and History at Westside High School for 17 years. In 2001 he went to Crowley’s Ridge Academy to be the Junior-Senior High Principal. While there he was also a teacher, coach, and for a time, co-Superintendent. Mack was a devoted Christian, who worshiped at Southwest Church of Christ for 23 years, and at Valley View Church of Christ for the past 17 years, where he served as an elder.
In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his father in law, Jim Craft.
There is very little about Mack that wasn’t notable, and he conducted himself with integrity, wisdom, kindness, and humility. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, son-in-law, uncle, teacher, preacher, elder, mentor, friend, and encourager. Underlying and above all of these roles, he was a disciple of Jesus, and his far-reaching impact was enabled by his faith. Mack was always delighted to see you, and he often said, “Carpe diem,” which he genuinely lived out. These days with him were wonderful, but the years weren’t enough. Now, there’s just one long glorious day to seize, in the presence of the Father. And everyone who knows Mack is eager to see him again.
A celebration of his life will be held on August 25 at Valley View Church of Christ. The family will receive visitors at 11:30am, with a service starting at 2pm, and a burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
For lasting memorials the family asks that consideration be given to Crowley’s Ridge Academy, 606 Academy Dr., Paragould, AR 72450, Harding University, harding.edu/give/givenow or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org/donate
