Mable Elizabeth Dent, 88, of Jonesboro passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Saint Augustine. She was born in Catron, Missouri on April 6, 1924, the third of six children of John and Linnie Mitchem. Her family moved to Jonesboro where she graduated from Jonesboro High School. In 1944 she married the love of her life, J.D. “Jack” Dent. In their 57 years of marriage they lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Flint, Michigan, and Riverside, California before moving back to Jonesboro in 1961. Mable was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Postal Workers Union, traveling the country representing Arkansas as its state president. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Dent was preceded in death by her husband Jack, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her son Ron (Sharon) Dent, of Hot Springs, daughter Debra (Ron) Cervelli of Saint Augustine, Florida, granddaughter Rachel Dent of Chicago, Illinois, and brother, Fred Mitchem of Mountain Home.
She spent the last two months living at the home of her daughter while bravely fighting pancreatic cancer. Mable was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening at 6-8 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with funeral services to follow on Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetary. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
