Lynn Allen Greene of Jonesboro passed away at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the age of 86.
Mr. Greene was born in Lilbourn, Missouri, to William McKinley Greene and Roberta Lane Greene in 1925. At age 17, he joined the United States Navy and served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 as Sonarman First Class USNR on the USS Rall (DE 304) Destroyer Escort which received the Navy Unit Commendation Award for Extra Ordinary Heroism in Action in Okinawa, Japan on April 12, 1945.
Mr. Greene married Juanita Jacks Greene on July 13, 1946 in Lilbourn, Missouri, and two children were born to them: Dana Greene Finan and Stacy Greene.
Mr. Greene moved to Jonesboro in 1952 with the Kroger Company; and in 1960, he created Lucky Supermarket which developed into Lynn Greene’s Big Star and Quick Shops located in Jonesboro, Paragould, and Walnut Ridge. In 2001, Mr. Greene retired to spend time with his family.
Mr. Greene was a founding member of St. Paul United Methodist Church; on the board of directors of Mercantile Bank and Union Planters Bank of Northeast Arkansas; an active member in the Jonesboro Jaycees, United Way, Salvation Army, Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce, Jonesboro Unlimited, University Lion’s Club; an avid supporter of Arkansas State University and Arkansas State University Indian Club; and a recipient of numerous community service awards.
Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta Lane Greene; his father, William McKinley Greene; and four siblings: Evelyn Atwill, Betty Calhoun, Glynn Greene, and John Greene.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Juanita Jacks Greene; his brother, Don Greene of Fort Washington, Maryland; his two children, Dana Greene Finan of Brownsville, Tennessee, and Stacy Greene of Jonesboro; six grandchildren: Chris Finan, Kelly Finan Tomlinson, Kristin Greene Reed, Ashley Greene Keller, Casey Greene, and Jodi Greene White; and eight great-grandchildren: Hunter Finan, Gavin Finan, Chase Finan, Greer Tomlinson, Molly Keller, Tucker Reed, Jackson White, and Konner Keller.
Services in celebration of Mr. Greene’s life will occur on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Public visitation begins at noon with funeral services following at 2 P.M. Interment will take place at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include Michael Finan, Chris Finan, Casey Greene, Todd Reed, Kelsey Keller, and Logan White. Honorary pallbearers include Warren Gray, Lavon Crawford, Frank Lee, Dr. Ray Hall, Dr. Michael and Julie Isaacson, Dr. Meredith Walker, Dr. Michael Mackey, Shirley Hall, Danna Barkley, Teri Smart, Christy Robertson, Bud Deiss, Jess White, Forrest Smith. The Greene family also extends their gratitude to the Staff of CCU and ICU of NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.
