Luke Michael Gibson, age 12, of Jackson, Tennessee, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, in LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis from injuries sustained in a motocross accident on Saturday in Pontotoc, Mississippi.
Born in Sylvania, Ohio, Luke moved to Jackson 8 years ago. He was a 7th grader and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson. Luke enjoyed skate boarding, BMX, and was a member of the King of the Hill Motocross Series. Luke also enjoyed drawing, watersports and collected Jack Skelton from Nightmare Before Christmas.
Luke collected ink pens and pocket knives and was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Lloyd Dickens, and his paternal grandfather Durwood Gibson.
Survivors include his father, David Gibson of Jackson;
His mother and step father, Paula and Michael Shephard of Jackson;
1 sister, Jena Gibson of Jackson;
2 brothers, Caleb Gibson and Joshua Shephard, both of Jackson;
Paternal grandparents Gordon and Joy Furness of Michigan City, Indiana,
Maternal grandmother, Joyce Darling of Bay, and
Maternal grandfather, Michael Darling of Jonesboro; and
Several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland with Pastor Chuck Williams officiating.
Active pallbearers include Brad Gibson, Robbie Gibson, Joseph Shephard and
J.D. Walker.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
