Luella Sirois

Luella Sirois, 102, of Jonesboro , died June 28, 2012 at her home. Born in St. Anne , Illinois , on December 21, 1909, she was a graduate of Wheaton College and taught elementary school in St. Anne until moving to Arkansas in 1954. She was co-owner/operator of Quality Gladiolus Gardens in Jonesboro with her husband, Chester until their retirement in 1997. Luella enjoyed canning vegetables, cooking and being a homemaker in addition to managing the offices of their business.


She was a member of Central Baptist Church and taught Sunday School in the children’s department for many years. She was also active in the Gideons Auxiliary, attending many Gideon functions with her husband Chester throughout Arkansas and nationwide.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Sirois, after 60 years of marriage; a brother, Elden Allain; a sister, Iola Ferris; and a nephew, Dennis Ferris.


Survivors include her step-daughter, Bonnie (Kent) Kelly of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Kelly, Kim (Greg) Laffoon; great-grandchildren, Charla (Jeff) Hart, Kyle Kelly, Clint Simpson, Trace Laffoon; great-great-grandchildren, Acelen Hart, Tripp Hart, Phoenix Kelly; nieces and nephews, Becky Searle, Sally Ballee, Harla Reagan, Allain “Dike” Ferris, Susan Fawver, and Kent Allain.


Funeral services will be Monday, July 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Martin officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Serving as pallbearers are Kent Kelly, Brian Kelly, Kyle Kelly, Clint Simpson, Trace Laffoon, and Jeff Hart.


The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the kind and dedicated caregivers who were so faithful to both Luella and Chester in the last two years of their lives.
