Lt. Col. Teddy Wayne Pylant, (RET), 67, of Jonesboro, died Friday morning, September 5, 2008, at his home of colon cancer.
Born in the Childress community near Monette, Col. Pylant moved to Jonesboro in 1965. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and served 34 ½ years with the Arkansas National Guard, retiring in 1994.
He earned a Bachelor degree from Arkansas State University and a Master degree from Webster University in St. Louis. Ted was an account executive and weatherman for KAIT-TV and an announcer for Radio KNEA for several years. Ted was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church where he was a member of the Murl Smith Sunday school class.
Ted was the Founder and first President of the Craighead County Veterans Monument Foundation, American Legion Pickett Post 21, Disabled American Veterans Post 26, VFW Roy Wiles Post 1991, and the Northeast Arkansas Military Officer Association of America. He was Past President of Jonesboro Jaycees, past member of University Heights Lions Club and was preceded in death by his parents: Chancie Everett and Macey Elizabeth Meredith Pylant, and by 3 brothers: Max Pylant, Rudy Pylant and Ira Pylant.

1 Son and daughter-in-law: Barry Everett and Maureen Pylant of Sherwood;
1 Daughter and son-in-law: Carrie Elizabeth and John Williams of Jonesboro;
1 Sister: Billie Fern Garver of Tuscaloosa, Alabama;
1 Brother: Jack Pylant of Iuka, Mississippi; and
3 Grandchildren: John Chancie Williams, Cassandra Sue Williams and
Nicole Elizabeth Pylant.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at Walnut Street Baptist Church with Glen Putman and Max Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park with full military honors.

Honorary pallbearers include Ralph Boling, Billy Cribbs, Burnis Posey, Max Alexander, Murl Smith, Marvin Jumper, Carl Mosby, Jerry Bowen, and the American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
