Loyd Lee Cockrell

April 21, 1942 — February 23, 2019

Loyd Lee “Buster” Cockrell, 76, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Saturday, February 23, 2019. He was born to the late Judge Cockrell and Pauline Turner in Fulton, Mississippi (Itawamba County) on April 21, 1942. Loyd was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Assistant Superintendent. He was a charter member of the NorthEast Arkansas Radio Club. Throughout the years, he had worked with law enforcement. In recent years, he worked making deliveries of specialized, time-sensitive medicine throughout the region. Loyd enjoyed going out to eat, and gardening with his wife, Marilyn. He was known as a people person and that he never met a stranger.  Loyd was passionate about Christ and never missed an opportunity to share the Lord with anyone who would listen. In addition to his parents, Loyd is preceded in death by his son, Tyson Cockrell; and sister, Peggy Johnson.

Loyd is survived by his wife of six years, Marilyn Scott of Jonesboro; daughters, Brandi Cockrell and Casei Randall Bailey both of Houston, Mississippi; twin brother, Floyd Cockrell (Ettie Mae "Sissie:) of Baldwyn, Mississippi; step son, Eric Watkins of Jonesboro. Loyd also leaves his grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

The visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday starting at 11:30 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Emerson Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Wallace and Bro. Rick Hathcoat officiating.  There will be a second service on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Kessler Funeral Home, 116 South 3 rd Street, Baldwyn, Mississippi 38824. The burial will follow at Stephens Cemetery in Baldwyn, Mississippi.  The honorary pallbearers will be Bro. RD Lemons, Bro. James Baggett, Bro. Roger Blankenship, members of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church, and the Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group.
