Loren Gene Barkley, 85, a lifetime resident of Jonesboro, died Monday night, November 6, 2023, at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born in Lake City on August 19, 1938, to William Harrison and Mamie Barkley. He was of the Baptist belief. Loren retired from Dana Corporation. His hobbies included woodworking, hunting, being on the senior softball league, enjoying dirt bike racing and stock car racing. He served his country in the Army National Guard. His favorite of all pastimes was spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all nine of his siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Joyce Barkley of the home; sons, Doug Barkley (Dawn) of Strawberry, Arkansas; Danny Barkley (Melinda) of Jonesboro; Greg Rhea of Brookland; daughter, Angela Tate (Richie) of Paragould; six grandchildren; Addison Brannon, Sydnie Pelley, Michael Rhea, Hailey Montgomery, Madison Simpson, and Andrew Nash; and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 10, 2023, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Lincoln, Gerald Sharp, Jerry Barkley, Barry Barkley, Demo Gambill, Dale Barnes, Mike Barkley, Steve Barkley and Norris Watkins. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time.
