Lois Vernell (Hosman) Upton, 89, of Springfield, Missouri, died Monday morning August 27, 2018 in Springfield, Missouri. She was born on May 7, 1929, in Bone Camp Island, Missouri.
She was the oldest of 6 children and grew up primarily in Northeast Arkansas. She married her husband, Roy Upton, in February of 1946, at the age of 16. In 1951 they moved to Michigan, where Lois worked for the Kellogg company for over 30 years. After retirement, they moved back to Arkansas in 1988.
During retirement Roy and Lois spent most summers going back to Michigan where she enjoyed visiting with friends and family and cooking all the fish they caught.
Lois was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She cared very much about her extended family and church family. She had a smile and warm greeting for everyone, even when she couldn't always remember who she was speaking with. She was a member of Community Fellowship Church and for many years worshipping there was the highlight of her week.
Since Roy's death in 2010, Lois slowly declined as dementia took more and more of her memory.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest "Buck" and Lela Privett Hosman, one sister and three brothers.
She is survived by her four children: Roy D. Upton and wife, Helen of Louisville, Kentucky; Donna C. McMurry of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Robert L. Upton and wife, Gale of Battle Creek, Michigan; and Tammy K. Storer and husband, Michael of Springfield, Missouri. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Lindsey of Portia, Arkansas.
Lois is known as "Granny" to her 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild!
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dave Burgess and Pastor Chad Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 12:30-2:00 p.m.
