Lois Calkins

Lois Calkins, 89, of Jonesboro ascended to Heaven on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Lois is the widow of Vernon Stewart Calkins and mother to Constance Jayne, Kathryn June, Linda Susan and Harold Stewart. Lois was born at home to the Reverend Harold B. Duryea and Letha Marvel Snow Duryea on March 12, 1926 in Cherryvale, Kansas.

Lois loved life and accepted her Lord Jesus at 8 years of age, joining the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Lois and Vernon were married on January 31, 1945 in Liberal, Kansas by her father and enjoyed 60 years of married life together. Those left to treasure her memories are Constance Jayne Bonovich, Linda Susan Parker (Gary), and Harold Stewart Calkins (Susan Hanrahan), 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and extended family Linda and Ken Blauwcamp. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, daughter; Kathryn June, sister; Virginia Lee Moore and brother; Revenol Roy Duryea.

Recently, Lois had the blessing of residing at St. Bernards Village and spent time with many wonderful friends. Very special thanks to Beth Wallace, her home hospice nurse. Services will be private. Ashes will be taken to the Memorial Garden at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bradenton, Florida. Memorial contributions can be made to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice house, Jonesboro, Arkansas.
