Linda Moon was born March 30, 1948, in Jonesboro, Arkansas – the daughter of James Lonnie Cooper and Grace Maxine Cooper. Linda was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. In 1970, Linda married Alfred N. Moon, Jr. (Bubba), and the couple made their home in Swifton, Arkansas, where they raised their family.
Over the next several decades, Linda was involved in a variety of career endeavors. Initially as a private piano instructor, she utilized her significant talent to instill in her pupils not only a love of music, but a joy in the song itself. For over three decades Linda was involved in education. She served the Swifton Public School Systems in a variety of capacities including elementary faculty, special education faculty, and literacy faculty. She also taught at the Grimes and McPherson Correctional Facilities where she was involved in adult literacy. She retired from the Arkansas State University-Newport Adult Education Department in 2011. Due to Linda’s diligence, patience, and concern, scores of women and men have been able to enjoy life-changing literacy skills.
Linda was a beautiful person both on the outside and on the inside. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Jonesboro, and her faith buttressed her against many of the trials that befall individuals throughout life. She was intelligent, witty, determined, and possessed a contagious laugh. Linda was a natural communicator who nurtured a rare gift for ministering to people. She enjoyed a well-developed sense of fun, but always within the realms of decorum. She loved to sing and dance, and she had an abiding enjoyment of music. Linda enjoyed a “retirement” career as manager for blues entertainer Lucius Spiller. She often referred to these times as the most fun and carefree of her life. She enjoyed travel, a good movie, a song with meaning, beautiful clothes, and most importantly, time with family and friends.
Linda is survived by her children, Heather Moon of Paragould, Arkansas, and Nathaniel Dallas (Dee) Moon of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two siblings, James Thomas Cooper and family of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Lonnia Jean Cooper and family of Jonesboro, Arkansas; as well as an abundance of friends who loved her and whom she loved in return.
