Linda Joyce Dismon Brady, 76, of Jonesboro, passed away on June 11, 2024, at St. Bernards Medical Center. Linda was born in Champaign-Urbana, IL, on August 29, 1947, to the late John and Laverne Dismon. In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kenny Collins; one brother, Melvin Martin “Butch” Jacobs; and one half-brother.
Although Linda called Jonesboro her home for 24 years, she was well-traveled. In her early years, she lived in Chicago. But being a part of a military family meant she had the opportunity to travel all over. Her family lived in Berlin, Germany; Myrtle Beach, SC; Longmont, CO; Loring Air Force Base in Maine; Eaker Air Force Base in Gosnell, AR; and several other places. For 20 years, Linda taught sociology at Arkansas State University. She was a beloved professor, picking up multiple awards during her tenure. Outside of work, she loved to travel and spend time with her family. Christmas was always a big deal in her household. Without fail, her family would gather on Christmas Eve to spend time with each other and celebrate the holiday. She would go all out decorating her house with Santa and providing gifts for everyone. But Linda's absolute favorite hobby was spoiling her grandchildren.
Linda leaves a loving family, including her children, Scott Brady (Beth), Tim Brady (Jenise), and Kelly Collins. She is also survived by her brothers, David Stone, Jeff Young, and Danny McGrill; and her sisters, Pam Avant, Brenda Dismon, Cindy Jones, Barabara Ann Scully, and Patty Strossner. Linda's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jonathan Brady (Allison), Emily Carter (Wes), Katie Brady, Rylee Brady, Zachary Collins (Avery), Ryan Collins, Jax Collins, Tyler Brady, Trevor Brady, and Trey Brady. She also leaves behind a best-friend of 65 years, Delinda Stembler.
Friends and family are invited to honor Linda at a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on June 18, 2024, at Emerson Funeral Home. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to pay their respects. Burial will follow the service at Kellers Chapel Cemetery.
