Lewis Lance Jones, 90, of Jonesboro died Saturday, December 17, 2011, at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born to Louie and Rosetta French Jones here in Craighead County. During WWII he served the US Army as a paratrooper in North Africa. He lived and worked in California for 36 years retiring from the ARCO Oil Company. Lewis has lived in Jonesboro since 2001, moving here from Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a member of Southwest Church of Christ. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by wife of 56 years, Joetta Cope Jones, his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his second wife, Lola Shaw Jones, of the home; sons, William (Pam) Jones; Richard (Susan) Jones; daughters, Dorothy (Michael) McCarns, and Kimberli (Max) Lopez, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; a brother, John Jones and a sister Iva Lewis; step-children, Jim (Margaret) Shaw, Maxine Wallis, Pauline Bridger, Jerry (Anne) Shaw, Bob (LuAnn) Shaw, Danny (Tammy) Shaw and special niece Pam Dumas.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 21 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jim Shaw and Bob Shaw officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers and burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time on Wednesday.
