Leta Jane Hodges

Leta Jane Vaughn Hodges, 95, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Nov. 22 in the Craighead Nursing Center. Born near Brilliant, Ala., she moved to Arkansas with her family in 1928, settling in the Hydrick Community south of Harrisburg. She had previously lived in Pocahontas, Walnut Ridge, Wynne, West Helena, West Memphis and moved to Jonesboro in 1984.

Leta was a faithful wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother. She was an old fashioned homemaker who enjoyed doing things for her family and others. She enjoyed cooking for her family. Her specialties were apple and pecan pies and all kinds of jams and jellies.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she had been an active member of her ladies Sunday School class and the Caleb Mountain Climbers as long as her health allowed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Earl N. Hodges; a son, Larry L. Hodges; her parents, Robert M and Virgie Roberts Vaughn; and five brothers, Cecil, Laborn, Arnold, Travis and Austin Vaughn.

She is survived by one son, Curt Hodges (Mary Ann) of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Clayton Hodges of Rowlett, Texas, Kendra Bowen of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Scott Hodges of Memphis; one great-grandchild, Samuel Bowen; and three sisters, Lila Stafford of Wynne, Lois Best of Horseshoe Lake and Inez Bonham of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Emerson Funeral Home with Mike Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Tyre Cemetery at Hydrick.

Visitation will be at noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
