Lessie Mullins Stevenson, 93, of Jonesboro, died June 23, 2012 at her home. She was born in Craighead County and lived most of her life here in Jonesboro. Lessie moved to Chicago during World War II, for a short time, to help with the war effort. She was the Salutatorian of the JHS Class of 1936. After working 30 years as an accountant for Hyneman Department Store which later became Shainberg Department Store, she retired. Lessie loved her job, especially the perfection of numbers, meeting the public, and was very task committed. She loved reading the Jonesboro Sun cover to cover every day. Lessie was very close to her brother and sister throughout her life and that love continued on to her nieces, nephews and extended family. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Richard Stevenson of Jonesboro; her grandchildren, Blake Stevenson, Maggie Stevenson, and Bret Stevenson; great grandchildren, Aiden Stevenson and Declan Stevenson; and her brother and sister, Samuel Leon Mullins and Norma Walker, both of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Stevenson; and her parents, Samuel & Cora Taylor Mullins.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Old Enterprise Cemetery with Kenneth Gossett officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Stevenson, Cecil Stevenson, Terry Stevenson, Cole Stevenson, Blake Stevenson, Bret Stevenson, and Jeff Reid. Honorary pallbearers include Leon Mullins, Dr. Stan Worley, Mr. Steve Orr, Mr. Rick Gambill, Dr. Veryl Hodges, Dr. Revel Porter, Dr. Ladd Scriber, Mrs. Helen Parks, and Faye Holt Haney.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

For lasting memorials, the family requests consideration be given to Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1910 Scenic Drive, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401.
