Les Nancy Jean Kirkley

Les Nancy Jean Kirkley, age 79, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died Monday morning at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Lonoke, Arkansas, Mrs. Kirkley moved to Jonesboro in 1952 . She was a homemaker and a graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro where she was a member of the Harry Hill Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a member of the Jonesboro Country Club where she was Ladies Golf Champion during 4 decades in the 1960s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. She was the 1981 State Amateur Golf Champion and the 1976 and 1981 State Senior Golf Champion. She was a long-time member of the United States Senior Womens Golf Association and served several years as association secretary.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Benjamin and Mary Leatherman Lessenberry.

Survivors include:
2 Daughters and their husbands:
Nancy and Dick Crumbaugh of Jonesboro, and
Mary and Del Winn of Alpharetta, Georgia;

1 Brother: Judge Jack Lessenberry of Little Rock, Arkansas; and

4 Grandchildren: Caroline Caudle of Cummings, Georgia,
Colin Winn of Flagstaff, Arizona,
Eric Crumbaugh of Little Rock, and
Sarah Crumbaugh of Jonesboro; and

1 Great Granddaughter: Madeleine Caudle.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon, October 12, 2005 at 2:00 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro with Rev. Rex Dickey and Rev. Carlton Cross officiating. Burial will be private in Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers include members of the Harry Hill Sunday School Class and members of the Jonesboro Country Club Ladies’ Golf Association.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, October 11, 2005 from 5-7 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
