Leonard R. Gant, 83, of Mishawaka, Indiana passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Mishawaka following an illness. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 2, 1928 to William & Grace Ruth (Hardy) Gant, who both preceded him in death. Mr. Gant was a Conductor for the Conrail Railroad for many years until his retirement in 1993.
On August 13, 1947 in South Bend, he married the former Melba Jean Newton. She survives with three children, Marjorie (Terry) Kosinski of Jonesboro, Russell L. Gant of South Bend, and James C. Gant of Mishawaka. He is also survived by three stepdaughters, Martha Gerber, Judith Uhl, and Pamela Launsberry; Five grandchildren, Christina White, Jennifer Kosinski, Brian Kosinski, Kassandra Kosinski, and Andrew Kosinski; three great grandchildren, Alexis White, Maximus White, and Jaxon White.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Burial, with Naval Honors, will follow at Pine Log Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Andrew Kosinski, Brian Kosinski, Blake Johnson, Casey Foster, Larry Don Towell, and Larry Towell.
Visitation will be Friday from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
