Leon Sharp,83, of Weiner and Cherokee Village, died Friday, February 3, 2012. He had lived in Jonesboro until 1974. He was of the Baptist belief and loved to fish. He was a member of the Jonesboro Retired Firefighters Pension Board, retired from the Jonesboro Fire Department after 21 years and the Cherokee Village Fire department after 25 years. Leon was proud of his American Legion membership and being a lifetime member of the Arkansas Firefighter’s Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Vedain Sharp.
Survivors include his partner, Frances Cohoon of Weiner and Cherokee Village; son, Robert Sharp and wife Brenda of Jonesboro; daughters, Becky Sharp and Tammy Darnell of Jonesboro; Seani Gibson and husband David of Ash Flat, Arkansas; sister, May Lee Polantz of Cabot Arkansas; two nephews, Jerry Sharp and Terry Sharp of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 7, 2012 with Larry Walker officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery with Mike Taylor, Jim Dunlap, Alan Dunn, Joe Thompson, Gary Etter and Roger Stark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the current and retired firefighters from the Jonesboro Fire Department. Fire Department honors will be given at the graveside. Visitation will be from 5-7 Monday night in the Emerson Chapel.
