Leo C. Barnett, 91, of Jonesboro passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at NEA Hospital with his family by his side.
Leo was born on July 23, 1925 in Jonesboro to the late Earnest and Bessie Carter Barnett. After High School he joined the U.S. Army where served during World War II. While in the Army he earned EAME Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Ribbon, and the Germany Victory Medal. After the service he worked for Baldwin Oil Company for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Greensboro Road Church of Christ where he was a deacon. He enjoyed his antique cars, and he always put family first. The love he had for his family will be missed and never forgotten.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Dene Barnett of Jonesboro; son Rick (Debbie) Barnett of Jonesboro; daughter, Karen (Warren “Dutch”) Baxter of Jonesboro; brother, Verlan (Jabo) Barnett of Jonesboro; grandchildren; Todd Baxter, DeeAnna (Todd) Goode, Felicia (Kendall) Boyd, Blaine (Mecca) Baxter, Blake (Holly)Faulkenberry, and Brandy (Blake) Thompson,14 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service will be Friday morning at 10am in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Kelly Rowe officiating. Interment will directly follow at Pine Log Cemetery with Military Honors, and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements. Pallbearers will be Todd Baxter, Blaine Baxter, Blake Faulkenberry, Cliff Baxter, Austin Baxter, Daniel Baxter. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Greensboro Road Church of Christ. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7pm at Emerson Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the NEA Cancer Center, Dr. D. Allen Nixon Jr. and his nurse, Pat Wolover, the whole staff of NEA Hospital especially the fifth floor nursing staff for all the care and support throughout Leo’s stay during his illness.
