Lehman H. Smelser

Lehman H. Smelser, 81, of Jonesboro, passed away January 14, 2013 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born May 1, 1931 and had served in the U.S. Army. Lehman was employed for many years at General Electric in Jonesboro. He lived most of his life in Jonesboro, was a member of North Main Baptist Church and was a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Sue (Mason) Smelser; one son, Jasper Smelser; his parents, Jasper & Pearl Smelser; brother, J.M. Smelser; two sisters, Delphia Meadows and Beatress Penny.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Rita Kay and Annette Smelser, both of Jonesboro; one brother, Marion Smelser, Michigan; two sisters, Evelyn Bush, Walnut Ridge, Frances Dance, Michigan; several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Brown officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Boyce Smelser, Abbie Wilson, Janis Bush, Mike West, Steve Brannen, and Kevin Whitlow.

Visitation will be Wednesday 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
