L.D. Gibson

L.D. Gibson, 79, of Trumann passed from this life on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Methodist Le Bonheur in Germantown. He was born to the late J.D. and Maxine Gibson on September 28, 1940 in Weona, Arkansas.

L.D. graduated from Arkansas State University before receiving his Law Degree from the University of Arkansas. He served his community for most of his life acting as a Public Defender in Poinsett County, Mayor of Trumann in the 1970’s, and serving as the City Attorney for Trumann. L.D. was an Attorney for over 50 years.

L.D. attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Trumann with his wife, Alma Gibson. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved to catch a game whenever he had the chance. L.D. shared his love of baseball by coaching youth baseball and umpiring for several decades. Most importantly, L.D. was a family man and loved his family very much. In addition to his parents, L.D. is preceded in death by his in-laws, Tommy Hogan, Gary Hogan, and Judy Hogan.

L.D. is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alma Gibson of Trumann; son, Jason Gibson (Suzanne) of Jamestown, Tennessee; daughter, Laura Svec (Brian) of Carmel, Indiana; brothers, Ronnie Gibson (Linda), Larry Gibson (Karalee), and Terry Gibson; sisters, Shirley Gibson, Deloris Gibson, and Mary Gibson; grandchildren, Cody Gibson, and Luke Daniel Gibson and bonus grandchildren Weston Hull, Jayce Hull; In-laws, Ricky Hogan (Beth), Mike Hogan (Pam), Peggy McHalffey (L.C.), Diane Wells (Raymond), Shella Nichols (Larry), and Sara Hogan. L.D. also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.

The visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm at Emerson Funeral Home.

The service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Emerson Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Loggins officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the active pallbearers being L.D.’s family. The honorary pallbearer will be his longtime friend Bob Slinkard. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National MS Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington DC 20090-1891

Due to COVID-19 it is required that anybody that visits the funeral home for services shall wear a mask. Social distancing will be requested throughout the services.
