LaVerne Scott Sloan passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday February 23, 2017 surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 17, 1926 in the Greene county community of Fontaine. She was a graduate of Arkansas training school and Arkansas State College (now ASU).
She and her husband Billy were partners in agriculture in several Arkansas counties and owned Sloan Polled Hereford Cattle Farm in Jonesboro. They were married for 54 years before his death in 2006 and were lifetime members of First Presbyterian Church. She dedicated her life to her family and children, loved gardening, animals, the land, nature and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude Lee and Ben R. Scott, sisters, Sophronia Scott Fuhr and Doris Scott Kennon, and husband William Comfort Sloan, Jr.
She is survived by her children William Comfort Sloan III (Bill)
of Jonesboro, Phoebe Sloan Crocker and husband Donald D.
Crocker of Little Rock, her granddaughter Katherine Elizabeth Crocker
(Katie) of Philadelphia, to whom was the joy of her life.
Sister in-laws, Barbara Sloan Pearsall and Betsy Sloan Barrett.
Brother in-law, Frank F. Sloan and wife Roberta,
and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 28, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.
A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday March 1, 2017 with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
The family wishes to thank her trusted and compassionate caregivers and the hospice staff at St. Bernard's Home Hospice care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Bernard's Home Hospice, 1726 Marie Circle, Jonesboro AR 72401, or a charity of your choice.
