Laverne Parrish, 76, of Jonesboro passed from this life Tuesday, January 13 at her home. She was born July 31, 1938 in Doniphan, MO to the late Henry and Ella Holland Helms. She spent most of her life residing in Jonesboro. Laverne was also a long time member of the Nettleton Church of Christ and recently the Brookland church of Christ. She loved reading her Bible, spending time with her family and taking care of people. She worked several years at the Taco Hut which later became The Taco Kid. She also worked at Armour Swift Eckrich. After retiring from the Turkey plant, she then became the primary caregiver to members of her family and church family as she was needed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; six sisters: Maggie, Lavone, Janie, Ella Dean, Maxine, and Pauline; one brother: Henry Helms; and one great-grandson: Traylen Wallace.
Laverne is survived by one brother: Doug and Betty Helms; one son: Chad Parrish; and three daughters: Sheila (Junior) Hancock, Debbie Montgomery, and Felicia (Tim) Blankenship; nineteen grandchildren: Sara, Tara, Kara, Candice, Ronnie Dean, Heather, Stephen, Hannah, Kelsee, Kaleb, Fallon, Haley, Joshua, Devin, Amber, Jordan, Debbie, Emily, Alicia, and their spouses; and twenty eight great-grandchildren: Noah, Emi, Jace, Coy, Jax, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Colleen, Harley, Chandler, Connor, Destiny, Kasen, Liam, Landon, Cameron, Cheyenne, Riley, Rayah, Lilly, Montana, Kaydlyn, Gaven, Trinity, Bayley, Tysen, Phyllis, and Makenna.
There will be no funeral or visitation per her wishes. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Valley View Church of Christ in Celebration of her life and will be officiated by Jimmy Young.
