Larry Edward New, 73, of Jonesboro, Arkansas passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was born on March 15, 1951, to James Lloyd and Dollie Mae New in Weona, Arkansas. He married his true love, Mary Catherine, on December 22, 1969, and they remained married for 55 years.
A purebred country boy who enjoyed the great outdoors, Larry loved to travel, so much so that in his career he covered all of the contiguous 48 states, most of Canada, and some of Mexico. He even got so close once that he could see the border of Alaska. Larry often said that when he gets to paradise, he wants to see the entire world.
Additionally, his adventuring spirit led him to obtain his Commercial Pilot’s License. He took great pleasure in executing aerial acrobatics, along with vacationing with his wife. No stranger to the kitchen, he also enjoyed creating culinary dishes for friends and family.
Larry had a welcoming heart and love of laughter. He was known as someone who had a big hug and a listening ear to any who needed it. Several folks throughout his years called him “Dad” because of his nurturing spirit.
Making a dedication of his life to Jehovah God, Larry was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 11, 1975, and he remained firm in his dedication to the end of his life. He served as an elder in the local congregation for 18 years until his health would no longer allow him to serve in that capacity.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of almost 55 years, Mary Catherine; precious daughter, Tracey (Mike) Steele; two granddaughters, Natalie and Emma; spiritual daughter, Annette Bledsoe; spiritual granddaughter, Happi Bledsoe; one sister, Shirley (Ray) Richardson of Trumann; brothers, Jerry New of Jonesboro, Bobby (Shirley) New of Harrisburg, and Harry (Barbara) New of Trumann; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a mighty array of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ella Mae Hoffman; and brothers, J.L. New, Billy New, Sr., and Charles “Buddy” New.
