Larry Moon, 69, of Lake City, Arkansas passed away on Thursday May 1, 2014 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. He was born in Bay, Arkansas on November 3, 1944 to the late Vick and Ouida Moon. He was a retired mechanic and worked at Roach’s manufacturing for 14 years. He was a member of the Bethabra Baptist Church on Cane Island.
Larry had a big heart and was loved by everyone. He was an important man to his family and was affectionately referred to as papa and poppy by his grandkids and people that knew him.
Larry had a passion for baseball and he never missed a St.Louis baseball game. There was no doubt about it “poppy” would’ve been a St. Louis Cardinal himself. He hit his longest homerun on May 23, 1976 in West Memphis, Arkansas. One of his favorite past times was hunting and fishing with his family and golfing with his friends.
Larry was preceded in death by a daughters; Danette Wixson, Five brothers; Bill, James, Tom, Charlie and Paul Moon. Two sisters; Janette Mabry and Rochelle Norman.
Larry is survived by his wife; Jean Moon of the home. Son; Brad Moon (Allison) of Trumann. Three daughters; Sonya Kemper (Scott) of Hardy, Arkansas, Roxanne Smith (David) and Angie Calahan (Doug) all of Lake City.
Brothers; Sonny Moon (Margie) of Trumann, Beloved brother; Jack Moon (Brenda) of Bay and Craig Moon (Mary) of Trumann.
Beloved sister; Lou Anne Moon of Jonesboro and Vickie Holden (Stan) of LaPorte, Texas.
Eight grandchildren; Zach, Heather, Lauren, Fallyn, Dylan, Ally, Seth and Kenadi.
Two great grandchildren; Jesse and Rylan.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday May 5, 2014 at the Bethabra Baptist Church in Lake City with Bro. Jarrid McGrew officiating. Burial will be at Lower Cane Island Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be from 3-5:00 P.M. Sunday May 4 at Emerson Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Roger Moon, Wade Moon, Rick Brewer, Dede Hawkins, David Curtis and Bob Barker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Bay Class of 1963.
Family requests that memorials be made to the Bethabra Baptist Church a project close to Poppy heart.
