Larry Creath Merrell

Larry Creath Merrell, 82, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, formerly of Jonesboro, was welcomed to his heavenly home on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Larry was employed at City Water and Light of Jonesboro as a lineman when he felt a higher calling on his life. He surrendered to preach the gospel message in 1975 at Ridgecrest Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro. He was ordained into the ministry by Cathedral Missionary Baptist Church where he was called to be a youth pastor. Larry attended Central Baptist College in Conway, AR and Mid-South Bible College in Memphis, TN, and faithfully pastored within the Baptist Missionary Associational churches in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana for 47 years. Larry served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1963.

He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Thomas and Maude Merrell of Florida, brothers, Vannen Merrell of Jonesboro, Eddie Merrell of Florida, and Douglas Merrell of South Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Noma Carole Merrell (Neely), son Shaun Merrell (Yalanda), and grandson Hunter Merrell, two sisters Cyndi Merrell (Bill) and Tammy Merrell, both of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 24 at 12:30 pm, with funeral services to follow at 2:30 pm, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, AR, with Bro. Don Seat and Bro. Paul Vincent officiating. Burial will be at McDaniel Cemetery in Jonesboro, AR following services.
