Larry Jerome Carter, 78, of rural Harrisburg, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at his home of natural causes.
Larry was born in Harrisburg and lived much of his life in Poinsett County. He was a 1957 graduate of Wilson High School and served 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, May 1957-May 1960.
Following military service, Larry worked most of his adult life as a welder operating Davis and Carter Welding with his step father Willard Davis. Larry was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Harrisburg where he was a Sunday school teacher.
Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing. However, his real passion was motorcycles and traveling and he along with his wife visited the 48 contiguous states plus Alaska and Canada. For years Larry preferred to ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles. But his last motorcycle was a Honda Gold Wing three-wheeler which they toured from border to border and coast to coast.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Lucinda Johnson Davis; sister, Evelyn Joyce Fore, and brother-in-law: Eddie Fore.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Irene Carter of the home;
Step dad, Willard Davis of Harrisburg;
4 sons and daughters-in-law: Byron Jerome and Tammy Carter and Jason Travis and Tracy Carter, all of Manila, William Christopher and Rhonda Carter of Jonesboro, and Stephen Earl and Brandy Cook of Rector;
1 daughter, Vicky Joyce Grady of Harrisburg;
several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday in Cornerstone Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Goad and Rev. Gary Brown officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
