Larry Dale Boatman, Sr., 58, of Jonesboro, died Saturday at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Larry was born in Pleasant Plains and moved to Caraway when he was nine. In 1983 he moved to Bay and then to Jonesboro in 1996. He worked as a farmer for several years and then for the last 28 years he worked as an upholsterer and furniture finisher before becoming disabled.
He was a member of Needham Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Willie “Bill” and Mary Layton Boatman, by a sister, Carol Tipton, a son-in-law, Kevin Dale Leonard I, and his father-in-law, Virgil Nickerson, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Nickerson Boatman of the home;
1 son, Larry Dale Boatman, Jr. of Brookland;
3 daughters, Jessie Boatman of Memphis, and Joy Dale Boatman and Mary Jones (Lance), all of Brookland;
6 brothers, James Berry (Lucille) of Longview, Washington, Eugene Berry (Willie) of Union Hill, Arkansas, Asa Boatman (Anita) and Willie Boatman (Rebecca) all of Caraway, Joe Boatman (Clara) of Bradford and Kenny Boatman (Kathy) of McCrory;
5 sisters, Geneva Stallings (James) of Jonesboro, Juanita Smith (Lee) of Avenal, California, and Brenda Polston (Virgil), Lois Northcutt (John), and Susan Boone (Glenn), all of Caraway;
1 brother-in-law, R.C. Tipton of Union Hill;
His mother-in-law, Jean Looney of Bay;
7 grandchildren, Brittany Vinson, Kelsey Vinson, Pamela Leonard, Kevin Leonard, II, Kimberly Leonard, Paul Boatman and Karen Boatman; and
1 great granddaughter, Linay Vinson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in Needham Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Bricker and Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Men of Needham Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
