Larry Columbus Cooper

Larry Columbus Cooper, aged 81, passed away on October 20, 2023, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born on September 28, 1942, in Bay Village, Arkansas, to his late parents, Ray and Jewell Cooper.

He served three years in the United States Army. Larry found fulfillment in his career in construction and roofing, and he had a strong passion for it. Additionally, he had an appreciation for staying updated with the news, supporting the St. Louis Cardinals, and partaking in deer hunting.

Larry is preceded in death by his two brothers, Billy Ray Cooper and Mike Cooper, as well as one step-son, Dennis Nichols.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Shirley Cooper, who resides in their home. Larry's family includes one step-son, Terry Nichols, and one step-daughter, Shelly Nichols, both of Jonesboro. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Cooper, and sister-in-law Gwen, of Cherokee Village. His sisters, Joan Gassman from California, and Brenda Motz (Steve Nichols) and Sue Pankey both from Memphis, also cherish his memory.

Larry is fondly remembered by six grandchildren: Jared, Emilee, Jake, Alli, Tyler, and Hayley. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Noah, Layla, Jesse, and Enzo. He had a wide circle of nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply and a multitude of friends who shared a lifetime of memories with him.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, commencing at 10:00 a.m., and he will be laid to rest at Nettleton Cemetery in Jonesboro. Pastor Danny Jackson will officiate the funeral service. Active pallbearers will include; Perry Cooper, Wilson Cooper, Michael Riley, Rod Parks; and Justin Smith. Those honored to serve as Honorary pallbearers include; Reno Pope, Jared Nichols, Terry Nichols, Mickey Todd Cooper, and Jake Slayton.
