Lanny Barnhill

November 19, 1950 — June 11, 2011

Lanny Barnhill, 60, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the NEA Memorial Hospital.

Lanny was born in Jonesboro and lived most of his life here. He was a farmer and law enforcement officer. Lanny worked as a police officer for the Trumann Police Department, Paragould Police Department, Jonesboro Police Department, Bay Police Department and the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office for a total of 27 years.

Lanny was a 1968 graduate of Bay High School and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Lanny especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, A.H. “Sonny” Barnhill, and a brother, Terry Barnhill.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Linda Barnhill, of the home;

1 son and daughter-in-law: Jason and Kim Barnhill of Jonesboro;
1 daughter and son-in-law: Carla and Chris Lane of Brookland;

His mother, Susie Barnhill of Jonesboro;

1 sister and brother-in-law: Sandy and Billy West of Jonesboro;

6 grandchildren: Cheyenne Barnhill, Taylor Lane, Briar Barnhill, Reid Lane, Eliza Barnhill and Logan Barnhill; and his constant companion “Missy” that was always by his side.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 with Rev. Roger Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include: Tony Austin, Marty Boyd, Larry Burcham, Roy Coleman, Jesse Hanks and Rusty Grigsby. Honorary pallbearers include law enforcement officers who worked with Lanny throughout his service years.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
