Lance Wayne “Smitty” Smith, a longtime resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away on October 31, 2023, at the age of 51. He was surrounded by his family at NEA Baptist Hospital during his final moments.
Lance was born on December 2, 1971, in Benton, Arkansas, to his late parents, Jerry and Carolyn Smith. He moved to Jonesboro from Belton, Missouri, around 30 years. Lance has recently been attending Temple Baptist Church.
Lance had a passion for sports and was recognized for his exceptional skills in softball, earning a place in the Arkansas Softball Hall of Fame. He was also a dedicated wrestling enthusiast and even pursued wrestling himself, showcasing his determination and love for the sport. Lance was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He enjoyed attending concerts and was known for his love of music. One of his favorite pastimes was grilling, where he could share delicious meals and moments with loved ones. Lance dedicated more than 25 years to his role as an owner and supervisor at Sonic Drive-In.
Lance is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Laura Smith. He is also survived by his daughter, Whitlee Smith, sisters, Corinthia Humphrey (Eric) of Quitman, AR, and Bridget Cook (Dan) of Hopkinsville, KY. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Karen Erney (Brad) and Dallas Benson (Kelly), all of Jonesboro, along with several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 1-2 pm at Emerson Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 2 pm at Emerson Funeral Home, with Brother Andy Neal officiating. Lance will be laid to rest at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery, with friends and family serving as active pallbearers. Those honored with this responsibility include Tommy Boals, Rickey Kennedy, Will Davidson, Troy Davidson, Brad Erney, Eric Humphrey, Jimmy Joy, and Dan Cook.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Temple Baptist Church or the NEA Humane Society in Lance's memory. Lance will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
