Kenneth H. Murphy, 63, of Lake City, died October 30, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Memphis. He was born in Lake City and considered it home but had lived in Bono, Texas, and St. Louis throughout his life. He spent most of his career building custom homes. He enjoyed boating, fishing, working in his shop and his yard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam era. He served in the Mediterranean on the destroyer, Charles H. Roan.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Annette Murphy, of the home; his children, Kelsey Murphy, Brighton, Illinois, Wendy Murphy, Alton, Illinois, Melissa Brownlow, Pretty Prairie, Kansas, Michelle Klay, Dallas, Texas, Molly Murphy, Phenix City,Alabama; a step-son, Matthew Billeaudeaux, Dallas, Texas; his brothers, Don Murphy, Pevely, Missouri, Mike Murphy, Imperial, Missouri; and his grandchildren, Kolyn, Kamryn, Gage, Brandon, Brianna, Slayton, Kenny, Victor, and Zachary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel Myers & Mary Sue Craft Murphy; a son, Kenneth H. Murphy, Jr.; and his brothers, Larry Murphy and Dennis Murphy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Lake City at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Jerry Parker will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Pine Log Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Kevin Klay, John Brownlow, Tim Hamilton, Kelly Klingensmith, James Ray Barkley, and Steve Giles.
Visitation will be Tuesday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lake City.
