Kenneth L. Gerber, 81, of Jonesboro died at his home Friday night, December 21, 2012. He was born in New Haven Indiana to Kenneth Burdette Gerber and Geraldine Sorge. He was preceded in death by his parents. Kenneth was of the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Kendallville, Indiana High School in 1950 and began his lifelong career with General Electric as an apprentice. Before being drafted into the service, he volunteered in the US Army and served his country during the early 1950’s in the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Upon return to the States he returned to General Electric and continued his studies at Purdue University. In 1957 he was transferred to the Jonesboro General electric Plant where he worked as a design and manufacturing engineer until his retirement in 1990. During Kenneth’s early years he was very athletic and loved hunting, fishing and golf.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Patsy Gerber; daughters, Gayle (Donny) Gibson of Jonesboro; Patti (David) Thornton of Little Rock; two grandsons, Chris (Tina) Gibson of Jonesboro; Dylan (Ashley) Wright of Little Rock; and his precious little 7-day old great-granddaughter, Shelby Rae Gibson; sister, Marg (Bill) Patterson of Angola, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends, including his big black poodle, Buddy.
Visitation will be Monday, December 24, 2012 from 9-10 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. All other services will be private. Honorary pallbearers are Donny Gibson, David Thornton, Chris Gibson, Dylan Wright, Bill Patterson, Mike Patterson and Mark Patterson.
