Kenneth E. Reed

Kenneth E. “Gene” Reed, 68, of Bay, died Sunday at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born in Nettleton, Gene lived most of his life in Bay. He formerly farmed in the Bay area and was retired from Lincoln Manufacturing in Jonesboro. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a Baptist. Gene was preceded in death by his parents: Jesse and Cassie Reed, and by 4 brothers: Charles, Ray, James and J.B. Reed.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Shelby Reed of the home;

1 Daughter: Janice Hewitt of the home;

1 Son and daughter-in-law: Johnny and Joyce Reed of Bay;

1 Brother: Tommy Reed of Missouri;

1 Grandson: Johnathan Hewitt;

1 Granddaughter and her husband: Shanta and Matt Hartley; and

3 Great Grandchildren: Mallory Paige Hartley, Paiton Hartley and Kaden Hartley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Harles Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include: Elbert Bradford, Leland Wileman, William Allen, Derek Allen, Johnny Pagan and Rick Atkins.

Honorary pallbearers include: Tommy Sanders and David Reed.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
