Kayla Joanne Hewitt

Kayla Joanne Hewitt, age 8, of Bono, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Born in Jonesboro, Kayla lived all of her life in Weiner before moving to Bono recently. She was currently in the third grade. Kayla attended Weiner Elementary School until she was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. Subsequently she was homeschooled by the teachers of Weiner Elementary until she returned to the hospital last week.

Kayla was a devout Christian and was preceded in death by a grandfather, Frank Flanigan.

Survivors include: Her father and his fiancé: Wilbur Hewitt and Donna Soden of the home;

Her mother and stepfather: Kennita and Jeff Cox of O’Kean;

A sister: Madison Hewitt; A brother: Ryan Seth Soden;

Grandparents: Wilburn and Lillie Hewitt of Weiner, Judy Flanigan of Newport, and Allen and Teresa Soden of Waldenburg;

In addition, there are other brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Sammy Bennett and Dan Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner.

Active pallbearers include officers of the Craighead County Detention Center. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office and the Weiner Fire and Rescue Department.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
