Kathryn Louise (Lou) Angelo, 80, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, June 05, 2012, at her home of natural causes.
Lou was born May 3, 1932, in Sheridan, Arkansas, to W.E. and Hazel Lambert and was an only child. She attended Lono High School and Hendrix College.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands: Hugh C. Mixon and Frank M. Angelo. She is survived by her daughter, Lambert Grimes of Port Angeles, Washington; two sons: Clarke Mixon and Scott Mixon, both of Jonesboro; five grandchildren: William Mixon, Quay Mixon, Kelley Privett, Pierce Mixon and Harper Grimes; and three great grandchildren: Addison, Mary and Sloan.
Lou was the first woman to serve on the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees. She served two terms and was also the first woman to serve as Chairman of the Board. Lou was appointed to the first term by Gov. Dale Bumpers and to the second term by Gov. David Pryor.
From a safari in Africa to boat tours in China, Lou loved to travel. She visited scores of countries on six continents.
A graveside service will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. John Miles officiating, under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
Following the graveside service a gathering to receive friends will be held at Lou’s home, 1213 Cardinal in Jonesboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Jonesboro Church Health Center, 500 Kitchen, Jonesboro, AR 72401; or the Lou and Frank Angelo Scholarship at Arkansas State University, P.O. Box 1990, State University, AR 72467.
