Kathleen Simpson

Kathleen Simpson, 75, of Egypt, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Lawrence Hall Health and Rehab Center in Walnut Ridge where she resided.

Born in Viloa, Kathleen moved to the Valley View community at an early age and lived in the Jonesboro area several years before moving to Egypt in 1984.  She worked several years as a Cosmetologist before starting her own business and successfully operating it until her retirement.

Kathleen was a member of the Egypt Assembly of God and enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to gospel music and old time country music and watching television especially westerns. She also enjoyed crocheting, auctions, yard sales, flea markets and was an avid reader. Kathleen, whose grandmother was full Cherokee Indian, attended an annual Pow-Wow in Hardy hosted by multiple tribes.

Kathleen was preceded in death by:  her parents, Vowell W. and Juanita Griggs Zemery, her husband J.W. Simpson, her son Ricky Jones, and brother Thomas Leon Zemery.

Survivors include one daughter, Annette Upton (Barron) of Egypt;

1 grandson,  Jonathan W. Upton (Elie);

2 granddaughters: Jenniffer Jones, and Catherine Spangler (Lonny);

3 great grandchildren: Lilly Jones, Kayden Wiseman, and Dwight Spangler; and

1 sister, Carylon Crawford of Jonesboro.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday at Emerson Funeral Home.

A graveside funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Pine Log Cemetery with Kay Jones officiating.
