Kathleen Scott Hall

Jonesboro-Kathleen Scott Hall, 88 of Jonesboro died on Sunday, April 13 at St. Elizabeth’s Place. She was born in Viola, Arkansas on April 26, 1919 to Mr. & Mrs. L. Talmage Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Mr. Ray H. Hall Sr.

Mrs. Hall was a graduate of the Viola Public Schools and a 1956 graduate of Arkansas State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She was a career early childhood educator who taught hundreds of students. Mrs. Hall served as a first grade teacher for the Jonesboro Public Schools at South Elementary School for 9 years (1951-1960) before opening her own private kindergarten (ABC Kindergarten) at the family residence in 1964 where she taught for 14 years. Her years of teaching at ABC Kindergarten were focused on instilling academics, morals, discipline and responsibility with her young students.

She placed a significant value on learning and insisted that her sons advance their education to better society. The two oldest sons became physicians while the youngest became a licensed psychologist and a university professor. Next to her devotion to God and family Mrs. Hall loved children. She cared deeply for her students and also all those in need. Mrs. Hall, fortunately, got to see many of her students become productive citizens and successful parents.

Growing up on a farm in rural northern Arkansas she developed a love of nature, especially plants and animals. Mrs. Hall was an avid artist, painter, and birder. She will be remembered as a wonderful teacher and as a kind and giving person who always put others’ needs ahead of her own.

Mrs. Hall was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro, having served on the administrative board and volunteering in the nursery. She was a member of the Arkansas State University Faculty Women’s Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a volunteer for St. Bernard’s Medical Center Auxiliary.

Mrs. Hall is survived by three sons and their wives: Dr. & Mrs. George Scott Hall of Fort Thomas, KY, Dr. & Mrs. Ray H. Hall, Jr. and Dr. and Mrs. John David Hall both of Jonesboro. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: George Hall Jr. of Fort Thomas KY, Matthew Hall and Justin Hall both of Cincinnati, OH, Heather Hall Coleman of Jonesboro, Holly Hall Byars of Siloam Springs, AR, Colin Hall of Little Rock, and Elizabeth Hall and Sarah Hall both of Jonesboro. Great-grand children include: Elena Hall, Amelia Coleman, and Ethan Byars. Mrs. Hall is also survived by one brother, Eldon Scott of Elizabeth, AR and two nieces Millie Collins of Ash Flat and Debbie Moore of Viola.

A private family graveside service under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home will be held at Jonesboro Memorial Park with the Reverend John Miles and Reverend Patty Soward officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the NEA Clinic Charitable Foundation, P.O. Box 1960, Jonesboro, AR 72403 earmarked for the Ray H. Hall Sr. and Kathleen Scott Hall Nursing Scholarship Fund at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro.
