J.W. "Jake" Simpson

June 4, 1937 — July 11, 2009

J.W. “Jake” Simpson, 72, of Egypt, Arkansas died Saturday July 11, 2009 at the Veterans’ Hospital in Memphis.

He was born in Bay, Arkansas and lived in Egypt, Arkansas for twenty five years. He was a bull dozer operator for King Contractor, and a member of the Egypt Assembly of God Church. He was a Korean Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father; Ulas Simpson, three sisters; Frances Marie Whitaker, Katherine Simpson and Sharon Simpson. Two brothers; Herman Ray and Dave Simpson.

Survived by his wife; Kathleen Simpson of the home.
One daughter; Annette Upton and husband James of Cash.
One stepson; Rickey Jones and wife Pam of Trumann.
Two sons; Alvin F. Simpson and Jerry W. Simpson both of Mississippi.
Mother; Dorothy Marie Simpson of Jonesboro.
Four brothers; Raymond, Robert H., John C.Simpson all of Jonesboro and Michael K. Simpson of South Carolina.
Three sisters; Linda K. Brown of Strawberry, Susan A. Bounds of Jonesboro and Sandra J. Simpson of Memphis, Tennessee.

One grandson; Jonathan Wilson Upton, Two step-granddaughters; Jennifer Jones and Cathy Wiseman. One step-great granddaughter; Kayden Wiseman.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday July 16, in Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Gilley Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Pine Log Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.

Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Wilson Upton, James Upton, Vowell Crawford, Larry King, Tommy Zemery and Rickey Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Zemery and Bob Crawford.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Wednesday July 15, 2009 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
