Julianne (Judy) Gross DeVazier of Jonesboro died Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Forrest City, AR on April 23, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Leon and Jennie Belle Gross, a brother, William Eugene Gross and a niece, Elizabeth Gross, all of Forrest City.
Judy was a homemaker who enjoyed her role as a mother of two boys as well as two grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She loved flowers and decorating both inside and outside. She enjoyed weekend camping trips with friends and their children. She was an accomplished seamstress, using her skills to make or repair family or friends’ clothing and also repairing her coaching husband’s players’ jerseys. Her inherited sewing skills came from her grandmother, Louise Baker, who was a professional seamstress. One of her Christmas presents in 1954 was a portable sewing machine which is still working today. She was a member of the Forrest City Jr. Auxiliary, as well as the Jonesboro chapter. Judy was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Harry Hill Sunday School Class where she served as the pianist for over 35 years. She was a volunteer at the Jonesboro Church Health Center and at St. Bernard’s Hospital. She enjoyed employment at Steinmart as a Boutique Lady for 10 years. Judy was co-founder of the “bagel ladies coffee group” and a longtime member of her birthday club. Above all she was a loving wife, wonderful mother and a caring grandparent. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dr. James Albert DeVazier; two sons, James Jr. (Sally) DeVazier of Jonesboro and Jeffrey Alan (Cindy) DeVazier of Stuttgart; two grandchildren, Sara Beth Smith (Jacob) of Lake Village and Adam Neal DeVazier (Christal Davis) of Memphis; great-granddaughter, Hallie Lynn Smith; Mrs. Julia Gross (sister-in-law) of Forrest City; Dr. Baker Gross (nephew) of Memphis; and two cousins, Bill Baker of Hudsonville, Michigan and Mary Lou Holland of Centerville, Ohio.
Memorial remembrances may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House and the local Humane Society,
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House for their special care.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. An informal visitation before and after the service is encouraged.
