J.R. "Bud" Canada

December 7, 1920 — September 4, 2009

J.R. “Bud” Canada, 88, of Jonesboro passed away Friday September 4, 2009 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born in Marked Tree, Arkansas and had lived in Jonesboro since 1984, moving here from Osceola, Arkansas He was a WWII Army Veteran, having served in the European Theater and the recipient of Five Bronze Stars. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Jonesboro and was self employed in the Cotton Ginning Industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Canada Sr. and Ader Curtner Canada, his first wife, Phyllis Vincent Canada and three sisters, one brother and one great granddaughter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Gibson Canada of the home.
Three sons; Jim Canada and wife Judy of Jonesboro, Ron Canada and wife Debra of Springfield, Missouri and Johnny Canada and wife Donna of Sweetwater, Tennessee.

Two sisters Ida Mae Collins of Harrisburg, Arkansas and Nellie Valentine of Jonesboro.

Six grandchildren; Stacey Johnson and Brian Canada both of Jonesboro, Corey Canada and Cina Canada both of Springfield, Missouri, Laura Driver of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and Greg Canada of Cookeville, Tennessee and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday September 7, 2009 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Revs, Matt Smith and Greg Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Harrisburg Memorial Park with Military Honors, under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be from 4-6:00 P.M. Sunday September 6, 2009 in Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro.

Active pallbearers will be Corey Canada, Brian Canada, Greg Canada, Robbie Johnson, John Driver, Nathan Johnson and Stephen Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jody Gibson, Ryan Gibson, Scott Gibson and Nathan Thomas.
