Joyce Upchurch

Joyce Margaret Upchurch, 88, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born November 3, 1930, to Andrew and Bertha Dunlap Whitmer in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She had previously lived in Nashville and Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1973. Joyce retired after 19 years from Dillard’s. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and attended the “Whosoever Will” Sunday School class. Joyce enjoyed all things Elvis. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards, doing word search puzzles, and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim Upchurch in 1997, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Duronda (Tim) Thrasher; 2 sisters, Vivian Sanner of Charleston, South Carolina and Marjorie Nunn of New Orleans, Louisiana; 3 grandchildren, Kristen Grafmyre, Adam (Morgan) Thrasher, and Jenni Beth Thrasher; 2 great grandchildren, Lepley and Zeke Grafmyre.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm with the service starting at 3:30 pm, both at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Mike Martin and Larry Bailey. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be Adam Thrasher, Roddy Thrasher, Brad Fields, Daniel Fields,
Lance Owens, Andrew Brown.
