Joyce M. Smith

Joyce M. Smith, 87, of Cherokee Village, passed from this life on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Kennett, Missouri, Joyce was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Hornersville High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia before marrying Verlon Smith and beginning their life together. The Smiths lived in Birmingham, Cleveland and Memphis before retiring and moving to Cherokee Village in 1993.

Joyce was a member of Myron Baptist Church where she served as assistant pianist and organist and was active in the church Ladies group. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.

Joyce was a born again Christian and life-long follower of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Verlon Smith of the home;
2 sons and daughters-in-law: Paul and Mary Jo Smith of Houston, Texas, and
Dale and Beverly Smith of Jonesboro;
1 daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Ray Murphy of Dallas;
1 half sister, Linda Hill of Cleveland, Ohio;
11 grandchildren and their spouses:
Timothy Smith, Patrick Smith, Katelyn Smith, Brittany Smith, Timothy Shmaefsky, Kathleen and Keaton White, Caleb and Megan Smith, Blaire Smith, Jocelyn Murphy, Sean Murphy and Vince Murphy; and
7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2019, in Myron Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Allen officiating.

A graveside committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in Horner Cemetery near Hornersville, Missouri with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

There will be no visitation.
