Joy White, 84, of Lake City, died Monday, March 9, 2020, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She had lived in Lake City for over 30 years, moving here from the St. Louis area. She was a member of the Lake City Methodist Church. She retired from Bussmann Manufacturing in St. Louis. Joy enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her canine companion, Daily. She was born in the Lake City area, and she attended Lake City High School, before moving to St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin White, who worked at Hussmann, Manufacturing in St. Louis; one son, Larry Hawkins; parents, Daily and Eva Hawkins; brother, Leroy Hawkins, two sisters, Lois Cohn and Dailene Culbreath.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Fels (Jerry) of St. Louis; step-daughter, Melba Gatlin (Johnny); step-sons, Mel White; Jim White (Betty); one brother, Jim Hawkins (Carol) all of Jonesboro; sisters, Mary Verberg of Chicago; Theresa Angel of Little Rock; several grand children and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 and Emerson Funeral Home will be in charge. Burial will be at Pine Log Cemetery with Eric Creasy, Jaxon Creasy, James Welborn, Cainan Culbreath, Jesus Zavala and Kimberly Fels serving as pallbearers.
