Joseph Matthew Walter, 79, of Jonesboro went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 18th.
He was born in Wisp, Arkansas and had lived in Jonesboro for 52 years, moving here from Bloomington, Illinois.
He was a Navy Korean veteran and a member of the Valley View Church of Christ.
He was a retired foreman and machinist for ADT and Dana Corporation.
Mr. Walter was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather and devout Christian.
He enjoyed working on the family farm and with their horses. Mr. Walter was formerly very active in the Jonesboro High School Band Boosters and a volunteer for South West Church of Christ. He was a avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and Country music.
He was preceded in death by his parents J.M. and Zella Campbell Walter, three brothers Junior, Charles and Gene Walter one sister Mary Belle Wofford and one son Jerry Hicks.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ehrline Walter of the home; children Judy Monroe(Wes) and Dianna Deal (Mark), both of North Little Rock, Patrea Son (Jeff) of Imboden and Joey Walter (Kasey) of Jonesboro.
Grandchildren, Samantha Monroe, Brandon Monroe, Natasha Deal and Latisha Young (Stephen) of Little Rock, Matthew Wilson of Little Rock, Leah Arnold (Donald) of Imboden, T.J. Son of Imboden, Kelby Norris of Tuckerman and Emma Grace Walter of Jonesboro. One great grandchild, Abigail Monroe of North Little Rock.
One brother Dean Walter (Erma) of Kyle, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 20, 2010at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with David Gibson and Winston Burton officiating. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery in Bradford, Arkansas with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Deal, Matthew Wilson, Jeff Son, Kenneth Wofford, Donald Arnold and Lynn Wofford.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Monroe, Gordon Williams, Sheldon Adamson Jr, Leo Hankins and Cecil Wilkerson Jr.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Friday March 19, 2010 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
