Joseph Ashby Johansen, 69, of Jonesboro, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 10, 2011, in a trucking accident near Jonesboro.
Born in Vernon, Texas, Joe lived in Borger, Texas, before moving to Jonesboro in 1989. He was a truck driver for King Services and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Joe was a member of the Jonesboro Worship Center, the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigurd C. and Lorene Ashby Johansen; and by two sisters: Jeanine Thompson and Mary Early.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Anne Johansen of the home;
2 sons, Mark Anthony Johansen of Jonesboro and Erik Ashby Johansen of West Memphis;
1 brother, Jon Johansen of Brandon, Mississippi;
2 sisters, Carol Strole and Kay Hermon, both of Moses Lake, Washington;
3 grandchildren: Jason Mark Johansen, Ryan Anthony Johansen and Tristan Ray
Johansen-Ainsworth; and
2 great grandchildren, Weston Lee Johansen and Christian Kale Johansen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Scot Loyd officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include: Mike Johansen, Joe (Jody) Johansen, Phil Whybrew, Gary Rowland, Chris Walters and Brandon Hatley;
Honorary pallbearers include his American Legion pool-playing buddies.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 until service time in Emerson Chapel.
