Joseph Peter Donaghy

Joe Donaghy, 67, died February 24, 2011. Born and raised in New York City , Joe graduated from Power Memorial High School and Fordham University . After serving in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia , he earned Master’s degrees from Howard University and the University of Alabama at Huntsville and a doctorate from Montana State University . A dedicated educator, Joe owned a preschool in Montana , taught with DoDDS in Italy , and served ASU’s teacher education program. He taught gifted and talented at Westside Elementary for the past 3 ½ years.

He loved the New York Yankees, music, reading, playing softball, baking pies, and traveling. At age 61, Joe completed the Little Rock Marathon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucy Donaghy, and his grandson, Evan Matthew Donaghy. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary, son, Matt, daughter, Sarah, two grandchildren, Sophie and Drew, and five siblings, Janet, Rita, Jack, Mary, and Bob.

A service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 4:30 on Monday, February 28. In lieu of flowers, donations to Westside Elementary’s Needy Child Fund are appreciated; checks may be made out to Westside Elementary School .
