Jones "Jonesie" Martin

Jones “Jonesie” Martin, 67, of Trumann, died November 6, 2012 at NEA Baptist Hospital. Born in Paragould, he had lived in northeast Arkansas his entire life spending the last 10 years in Trumann. Jones retired from G.E. in 1997 after working there for 32 years. He was a member of the AFLCIO Local 747 and had served as shop steward. He was the valedictorian of Brookland High School class of 1962. Jones had served in the Army National Guard. He was a charter member of the Jonesboro Chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He is a former Arkansas State director and is currently the chapter director for Chapter D of Jonesboro. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but his passions were woodworking, his motorcycle, and Buddy, his dog.

Jones is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna Martin, Trumann; his son, Jason Martin, Jonesboro; his daughter, Lisa (Loyd) Gravitt, Trussville, Alabama; and his grandchildren, Hunter Martin, Martin Gravitt, and Nathaniel Gravitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Thelpa Jackson Martin.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Chris DePriest officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Serving as pallbearers will be Junior Hancock, Danny Merritt, Jack Montgomery, Keith Sanders, Don Smith, and Gary Vanderbilt. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Johnson and Members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter D.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that lasting memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718.
